Drawing on his academic background and practice in urology, Dr. Erol Onel spent several years as an assistant professor of urology at Tufts University and the New England Medical Center in Boston, where he maintained an active academic schedule while leading the resident teaching program. He was selected twice as Teacher of the Year during his four-year stint at Tufts, and he founded the andrology laboratory. Dr. Erol Onel then became an assistant professor of urology, focusing on male fertility as well as male and female sexual dysfunction, at Andover Urology/Lahey Clinic, where he also served as managing partner for the private urology practice. As managing partner, he oversaw community service and resident education programs.
More recently, Dr. Erol Onel entered the pharmaceutical industry, serving as vice president of clinical research and medical information at Pacira Pharmaceuticals. In this role, he achieved the FDA approval of bupivacaine liposome injectable suspension for non-opioid treatment of postsurgical pain. Dr. Onel attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he earned his MD. He completed his clinical post-doctorate training in urology.
